Sun Shiny Day

Or is it 'shiney'? Spellcheck is not very helpful. Anyway, If anyone ever wants to come and visit us (We have been trying to recruit family & friends for 5 years now.) September and October are usually when we get the best weather. Last Monday it almost made it to 85 degree's! This calls for another day at the you know where. Sean took the day off because he worked all day Saturday and I called a few friends to meet us there. Of course a few days later the fog rolled in and it was 55 degree's again but we definitely try to take advantage of the sunshine.

Jim Finally Proposed!

We were watching the premier of one of our favorite shows, The Office, last night and Sean was snuggling with Daisy so I wanted to get a picture of them. Just then, the long awaited PB&J proposal comes out of no where. The unexpected scene happened so fast and caught me off guard. I caught the moment with my camera! Sean says "You aren't actually gonna blog that, are you?" You betcha buns I am! This is monumental! :) What a great way to start the season! I am so glad they didn't drag that out!

Kiddo Tag...Lily Ann

Lily was 'tagged' by my cousin Harmony and her little girl Adi to list 5 things that people may not know about her.

1.) Lily loves singing the song 'I am a Child of God"! Just this morning she was in her room, door closed, with a maraca she made in preschool, shaking away and singing. Later on today she found a tree stump and transformed it into a stage. Dancing and singing she performed a rendition of 'I am a Child of God' that has never been done before. Another one of her favorite's to sing is the Cuppycake song on my playlist...soooo cute!

2.) Lily has a vast knowledge of marine life, for a 3 year old that is. Beside a few mix ups between the abalone and the limpet she can identify all the local critters and seaweeds.

3.) Lily is a social butterfly. She makes friends so easily and doesn't hesitate to give out hugs and invite strangers to dinner (we are working on the stranger thing). She tries so hard to do what is right and not say "bad" words (hate and stupid...fortunately that is the worst of it right now).

4.) Lily ADORES her Daddy. They have the same sense of humor and so they throw out phrases and inside jokes to each other and think they are so funny. This 'language' of their's is very amusing to behold. It certainly makes me smile to see them laughing and playing.

5.) Lily is currently amused by princesses, dress-up, Strawberry Shortcake, Maui melon mint gum, fruit roll ups, preschool friend's, being super silly, park's, getting dressed by herself, helping Mom with EVERYTHING; especially making smoothies, making Daisy laugh, Cid the Science Kid, movies and popcorn, Hello Kitty, and glow-in-the-dark things.

That's my little lady in a nut shell.
We tag Cal, Shea, Landon, and Chase.

Don't Be Trashy, Recycle!

That is the latest 'green' saying I saw at Target this week. I think it's awesome. Can you believe this "save the planet" kick the world is on right now? In fact Sean is at a green planning and building certification this weekend up in Santa Cruz. Green is so hot right now products are putting it on their labels and advertising green even when they are not officially certified. I think the awareness is fantastic, but a lot of marketers are taking advantage of it. So be careful what you purchase if you think you are being eco-friendly, read the label's closely.

We are approaching our 5 year mark living here in California and I was thinking about the things that make us 'Californians'. I have always been a conservationist...not the tree hugger/save the whales extremist, but trying to live my life in such a way that is not wasteful or harmful to the environment and the little critters that I love so much.

Living in California makes it so convenient to be friendly to the environment. It is common place here to take your own bags to the grocery store. (Reminds me of a reusable bag I saw that said "Use Me Reuse Me", I thought it was funny)

and donate to and shop at consignment stores.
I occasionally donate to and shop these consignment stores...you can find so many treasure's for cheap and then get a percentage back on your things that sell. We even have our own recycle bins out in the garage. I think more people would recycle if it was convenient for them. Now if only I could convert and commit to organic food and products. Ya, maybe when they lower those prices. Who know's what will happen in another 5 years. Heck, California even has me driving a Hybrid. I'm not sure what it is but most people here are so cautious about what they eat, and simply reducing, reusing and recycling. I guess that is why it has been easy for us to follow suit. I can't believe we weren't doing these things 6 years ago!
Another thing I love about California is that it is now law to wear an ear piece while talking on the phone in the car. 'Put your phone down and drive' bumper stickers are going to have to be scraped off everywhere. The streets are a little safer these days. These reasons, and of course the ocean, the very reason I encouraged/made Sean apply out here, are why I love living where we do.

However, there is one reason I am not so proud of my state right now. California is facing a serious moral issue. So serious that our church along with so many others are getting involved. Allow me to expound. In 2000, over 61% of Californians voted to reaffirm the traditional definition of marriage as only between a man and a woman. This was defined in the California Family Code. The words were not put into the actual California Constitution and because of this, four activist judges from San Fran were able to overturn the people's vote! There is a new Proposition that will be voted on in November, Proposition 8. It reverses the decision of these judges by restoring the definition of marriage as a man and a woman in the state Constitution.

Sean and I have been volunteering with the Yes on Proposition 8 campaign knocking doors and making phone calls to simply survey peoples opinion's and make them aware of the situation. It is so sad that a lot of people just don't care!

Not only does Prop 8 restore the definition of traditional marriage that the majority of voters already approved, but it also protects our children from being taught in public schools that "same-sex marriage" is the same as traditional marriage. Many people I have talked to think this is an attack on the gay lifestyle. Prop 8 doesn't take away any rights or benefits from them, it simply restores the definition of marriage between a man and a woman. My bumper sticker representin'

The Family: A Proclamation to the World was issued in 1995 by my church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It states, "We, the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children. " If you would like to read on go here http://www.lds.org/
There is truly a sacred nature to the family unit. While death, divorce, or other circumstances may prevent the ideal, the best situation for a child is to be raised by a married mother and father!

Ok, getting off my soap box now. All you Californians get out there in Nov. and vote YES on Prop 8! If you really want to get involved go to http://protectmarriage.com/

No Fire's Allowed Beach Party

Since we were having such amazing weather last week we decided to plan a bonfire on the beach, roast some hot dogs and make smore's with some friends. Well, I got there to set up and there was a new sign at Asilomar Beach, NO CAMPFIRES. I kept walking like I didn't see it, we have done fire's here before, surely the ranger would understand we didn't know. The Laflan's had all the firewood ready to go which Jeff skillfully cut with his chainsaw and even soaked some sawdust in lighter fluid to get the heat started. A lot of work had gone into this. After some contemplation with myself, my conscience got the best of me (and the possibility of a fat fine), and I called Sean. He ended up throwing the dogs on the grill at home and then bringing them over. It worked out fine but we were smoreless (thank goodness Shauna B. brought those killer Oreo cupcakes) and we had to leave right at dark. The people who walked the beach in the morning were I'm sure excited to find a nice array of beach toys and flip flops that we left behind due to the quick onset of darkness. This event, though fun, definitely calls for a re-do. Don't worry Sarah, we will get that firewood out of the back of your truck just yet!
The Laflan'sThe Berciaga's (I'd claim her too Aaron) Notice the tourist's in the back taking pictures...look locals! This happened on our stroller walk the other day too! Funny.

The Snyder's left too early to get a pic...next time guys! You deserve a shout out on the Conroy blog! I know it is on your 'dreams to yet come true' list. Patience.

The sun started to set and the lighting was just right. Sarah took these next photos...

My little beach babe making sandcastles.
You can't tell by my expression but Sean wouldn't kiss me right. "Come on Sean, kiss me on the beach with the sun setting, don't you understand how romantic this is?"

I finally convinced him. Ahhhh, I know some of you are gagging. Sorry.

My Mom Went Into Labor on Labor Day

Thanks Mom for having me on a holiday and thanks Dad for coming home from your big hunt to welcome me to the world. I know that was a huge sacrifice!
The Big 2-8 ended up being a wonderful, sunny day! Not only did I get birthday waffles and the Mamma Mia soundtrack but due to the holiday everyone had the day off of work! We spent the day at the Carmel Valley pool with some great friends. Lily kept saying she wanted to be in the 'Lympics' while jumping off the diving board. I even got the courage to test my ol' diving skills. Daisy loved splashing and licking the water off of her hands. We made sandwiches and ate cupcakes (made by yours truly, Sean did frost a few) and then I held my cupcakes and made everyone sing to me. Come on, someone had to take charge. :)
The fun didn't end there. We all went to Chili's that night and had all the guys sit at one table with the kids while the ladies got their own booth. It was so great to have an uninterrupted conversation. Props to Sean and the other daddy's for watching the kiddos so that could happen. I even got my free chocolate milkshake and the birthday song from the whole Chili's staff. Oh, and I shared the white chocolate lava cake with Sarah...WOW...soooo yummy! Highly recommend it! Thanks to my lovely ladies Steph, Sarah, Karey, and Janine for a rockin' birthday dinner and a rockin' day over all!

How Many More Sleep's Mom?

Lily has been counting down the sleeps until Preschool and the glorious day finally arrived! She has been begging me to let her go to school for some time now. I never went to Preschool when I was a kid and I think I turned out ok (some might think different) so I just brushed it off. Lily persisted and won. It is only 3 times a week for 3 hours but she was so ecstatic to carry her lunch in her own backpack and go do circle time in a real classroom. (I'm still not exactly sure what circle time is but she heard about it on Blue's Clue's and they actually do it here). It felt really strange waiting in the hall with all the other mom's. This is truly a new stage in our little lives.
"I didn't take my shoes off mom and I ate two of my carrots," Lily said when I picked her up. Of course her shoes were full of sand from the playground when we got home but shoes on and carrots eaten were big accomplishments for us.

"I'm so excited for circle time Cal!"

Let's hope this excitement continues through Elementary, Middle, and High School!

I Woke Up to This This Morning

Nothing like waffles and the Mamma Mia soundtrack to wake you up!
