Sean, Craig, Danna, Rochel and Mark take a stand.
Waving "Yes on Prop 8" signs at the busiest corner in town =
-5-10 obscenities yelled at us, (Sean says more)
-1 contentious woman arguing with Sean and Richard for 45 minutes, (FYI, ended up being an informing conversation for her. Way to remain calm guys!)
-and 20 or more thumbs up! This was only in a 2 hour time frame.
I, like others am truly exhausted with this issue. Locally all of the Yes on 8 signs we put up are stolen or ripped to shreds, cars are being keyed that hold a Yes on 8 bumper sticker, and my bumper sticker was stolen(and then replaced by me of course). It truly is getting to the point where I am wondering if I am putting my family's safety in jeopardy by voicing my opinion. The contention is so high. The NO on 8 campaign has "Equality for all" as their motto and they are certainly not practicing what they preach. We of course will keep doing our part until the election, but it is truly frightening to think that Prop 8 might not pass this November.
On a sweeter note, Lily and her buddy Felicity waiting it out while their parents take a stand.
Oh, I almost forgot, after the sign waving I pulled out of my parking place and to the stop light. Some guy pulls up beside me with his window down (mine was down as well) and I look at him and smile, he smiles back and flips me off! I look away thinking 'is he doing what I think he is doing, blatantly to ME? He gestures AGAIN while smiling and I, being confused and offended smile again and yell, "Mature buddy, real mature!" He then proceeded to speed off. I am assuming it was my Yes on Prop 8 bumper sticker. Unless he was just having a bad day and decided the woman in the Hybrid with her baby would be a good way to take out his anger. Can't these people who have strong feelings about the issue be intelligent and respectful enough to discuss and get involved instead of being vulgar and idiotic? I figure it is their excuse for not fully understanding what is going on. This issue goes way deeper than just same sex marriage people! My friend Chris has some wonderful insightful information regarding the issue on his blog...
" This proposition really is about safeguarding the family.
Under California law, homosexual couples who agree to civil unions already have
all of the tax and legal privileges that heterosexual couples do. The
institution of marriage is what they're after in an attempt to mainstream the
lifestyle. And in the end, studies show that children invariably are at a
disadvantage when raised in a family without both mothers and fathers.A lot of the argument for allowing same sex marriage (SSM) talks about it being a
civil right. The problem with this right is that it will come to infringe on
my right to live and believe how I choose. While supporters for SSM will argue that
will not be the case, it will undoubtedly become an issue when they do attempt
to teach and normalize the lifestyle in public schools, or when they come to our
churches and attempt to force our hands to recognize their marriages as being
valid. Make no mistake, it will come to that point."
I know that marriage between a man and a woman is sacred and ordained of God. Standing up for something I believe in doesn't mean I hate gays and lesbians. Christ himself is the perfect example. As another friend Greg said it, "Christ never backs down from His doctrine, but He also never limits His love for any individual!"
Hopping off the soap box again. We worked up an appetite waving the signs and getting cursed at so we headed to McDonald's for lunch. The one with the slide of course. Can you believe they have a McDonald's here without a play area or drive through? Craziness!
Lastly, and the most fun of course, we met up with our friends the Laflan's out at Earthbound Farms for some pumpkin pickin' and corn mazin'. The night ended with a delicious meal at Islands where the waitress actually held Daisy a little bit so we could eat. Nice!

Sweet, brave sister mine.
Thank you for taking a stand! It breaks my heart that ignorant individuals are being rude to you! (I'm seriously crying!)
For all of us who don't live in California, we appreciate your efforts and sacrifices to protect the family. Hug your babies tight for Aunt Jamey.
That is one busy Saturday. You guys are awesome to get out there w/your signs. Hopefully all the honks, the pumpkins, and Islands made up for the less than favorable reception you got w/your signs. Earthbound looks awesome...I'm excited to check it out Monday.
I can't begin to tell you how appreciative I am to all of you Californians who are out there doing their part. If I were there, I'd wave the signs with you.
I'm sorry you've come under attack. It's amazing how immature people can be. I'm stunned at what this world is turning into.
Thanks again and hang in there. November is right around the corner and we are praying.
I think y'all are AWESOME! Jake voted Yes on Prop 8 last week.
I remember that McD as well! sooo lame!
I'm so proud of you guys. We are working our tushies off here, but haven't yet had the guts to stand on a street corner. Thanks to your example, that's what we'll do this Saturday! THANK YOU for all you are doing!!!!!!! We miss you guys.
